To implement the school motto of being Academic, Intellectual, Happy and Hopeful, a learning environment which is characteristic, high-quality, international and versatile is to be created, in hope that skills- and character-building of students enable them to become sincere and practical professionals for industries, and that a technological university oriented for employment, practice and application is to be developed.

 

FOUNDING HISTORY

Shu-Te University is dedicated to excellence in teaching and elevating the standards of tertiary education in business and commerce, recreational services, and design industries. The university was established in September 1993 by three founders, Pei-Yu Chang, Chao Yein, and Fu-Peng Lee, along with 22 other educators. Dr. Yuan Hsiang Chu was appointed as the preparatory director. In 1997, the school received official enrollment accreditation; in August 2000, it was renamed Shu-Te University after obtaining accreditation from the Ministry of Education. The university’s institutional motto is “Academic, Intellectual, Happy, Hopeful,” and it strives to create a self-developed learning environment with an interdisciplinary, integrated, and open approach to a management philosophy and a self-disciplined campus life. Further, the university aims to foster both humanity and technology, cultivate problem-solving skills in professionals, and promote a balanced development of modern university theory and practice.

Since its founding, STU has expanded to include fourteen departments and seven graduate schools. Its mission is to develop students with skills and knowledge in the humanities and sciences, organizational leadership, and problem-solving. Currently, the university comprises five colleges with nineteen departments, nine graduate schools, a doctoral program, a continuing education division, and a two-year continuing education vocational school. Shu-Te University achieves its mission through instruction, research, opportunities for continuing education, and collaborations with private enterprises, public organizations, and non-governmental organizations. The university aims to produce well-rounded professionals with broad knowledge, specialized technological expertise, creativity, and experience to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
